Standby Preventive Maintenance

Two PM programs built so your standby generator starts every time

Standby generators fail when they sit. Our preventive maintenance contracts keep your unit inspected, exercised and documented year-round - with two clear program options and an Annual service that includes full inspection, oil and filter changes, and load bank testing.

Discounted labor rates for standby PM contract customers

Program options

Choose the cadence that matches your risk

Both programs include the same Annual service - the difference is how often we inspect and exercise the unit between annuals. More visits mean more chances to catch a problem before it becomes a failed start.

Monthly PM Program

12 visits per year1 Annual service included

Best for: Healthcare, mission-critical, NFPA 110 Level 1, life-safety and high-runtime standby plants where the generator absolutely cannot fail to start.

  • 11 monthly PM inspections (detailed visual + operational walk-down)
  • 15-minute supervised run check at each monthly visit to confirm start, voltage, frequency, oil pressure, coolant temp, and exhaust
  • 1 Annual service: full inspection, oil and filter changes (oil, fuel, air, coolant filters as applicable), and annual load bank test

Quarterly PM Program

4 visits per year1 Annual service included

Best for: Commercial, light-industrial, telecom and lower-runtime standby plants that still need documented PM and annual load bank testing.

  • 3 quarterly PM inspections (detailed visual + operational walk-down)
  • 15-minute supervised run check at each quarterly visit to verify the unit starts, transfers and runs cleanly under no-load
  • 1 Annual service: full inspection, oil and filter changes, and annual load bank test

What a PM visit includes

A real inspection - not a drive-by

Every monthly or quarterly PM is a detailed walk-down of the unit followed by a supervised 15-minute run. The point is simple: your standby generator should never go a full year without a trained technician laying eyes on it and hearing it run.

Detailed Visual Inspection

Engine, alternator, radiator, exhaust, fuel system, base tank, control panel and enclosure walk-down - looking for leaks, corrosion, loose hardware, rodent damage, cracked hoses and worn belts before they become failures.

15-Minute Run Check

Every PM visit includes a supervised 15-minute run. We verify cranking, start time, voltage and frequency stability, oil pressure, coolant temperature and exhaust - so the unit isn't sitting a full year without being exercised and observed.

Fluids & Filters

Oil level and condition, coolant level, freeze-point and inhibitor check, fuel level and water-in-fuel verification, DEF level (where applicable). Oil and filter changes performed at the Annual.

Batteries & Charging

Starting battery voltage, electrolyte (where applicable), terminal cleaning and torque, charger output verification, and load/conductance testing on every visit.

Controls & ATS Function

Controller fault history review, alarm and shutdown verification, block heater and battery charger operation, and ATS exerciser/transfer settings confirmed.

Documented Service Report

Every visit ends with a signed digital report - readings, photos, deficiencies and recommendations - delivered to your team and AHJ on demand.

The Annual

One Annual per year - included in both programs

The Annual is the deepest visit of the year. It rolls a full PM inspection together with oil and filter changes and an annual load bank test, so you finish each year with a unit that has been fully serviced and proven under load.

Annual Load Bank Test

Resistive load bank testing to full-rated kW - exercises wet-stacked engines, validates cooling, exhaust and fuel systems, and produces NFPA 110 / AHJ-ready documentation.

Annual service scope

  • Full PM inspection (everything from a normal PM, expanded)
  • Engine oil and oil filter change
  • Fuel filter(s) replacement
  • Air filter inspection / replacement as needed
  • Coolant condition test and additive top-off
  • Battery load test and replacement recommendation
  • Annual load bank test to verify full-rated kW performance
  • NFPA 110 / AHJ-ready documentation package
Contract customer benefit

Discounted labor rates on every repair

Standby PM contract customers receive discounted labor rates on all repairs, upgrades and emergency service calls outside the contract scope - including controller swaps, ATS work, fuel system repairs, and after-hours response. One contract, lower rates all year.
